The Bachelor of Engineering , abbreviated as BE , B.Eng. , or BAI (in Latin form) is the first professional academic degree awarded to a student after four to five years of engineering studies at an accredited university. In the UK, the B.Eng degree will be accredited by one of the Engineering Technical Council's professional institutes appropriate for enrollment as an incorporated engineer or a hired engineer with further studies to the master's degree. In Canada, a degree from a Canadian university can be accredited by CEAB. Alternatively, this may be directly accredited by other professional engineering agencies, such as the US-based Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). B.Eng contributes to the route to a charter engineer (UK), registered engineer or licensed professional engineer, and has been approved by a professional representative.
A B.E. have a greater emphasis on engineering science, for example, electronics and electrical circuits, than B.Sc. However, the topics covered in B.E. can overlap with B.Sc.
Most universities in the United States and Europe award Bachelor of Science Engineering (B.Sc.Eng.), Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.), Bachelor of Engineering Science (B.Eng.Sc.), Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE), or Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc.) For engineering students. For example, Canada is the only country that rewards B.A.Sc. degree for engineers who graduated. Other institutions provide specialized engineering degrees for subject areas, such as B.S.E.E. (Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering) and BSME (Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering).
Less common, and perhaps the oldest variation of the English-speaking world, is Baccalaureus in Arte Ingeniaria (BAI), Latin name which means Bachelor of Engineering Arts . Here Baccalaureus in Arte Ingeniaria implies excellence in performing an engineer's 'art' or 'function'. The degree is awarded by the University of Dublin (of which Trinity College Dublin has had a School of Engineering since 1841), as well as by the constituent university of the National University of Ireland (NUI), but in daily conversation it is more commonly referred to as , and NUI graduates also use post-nomial translated into English, BE, although the actual level and parchment are in Latin.
Some South African Universities refer to their Engineering degree as B.Ing. ( Baccalaureus Ingenieurswese - Afrikaans).

Engineering field
In Australia, Bachelor of Engineering is a four-year undergraduate degree course and a professional qualification. It is also available as a six-year sandwich course (where students are required to undertake a professional placement period as part of a degree) or an eight-year part-time course through several universities. The Institution of Engineers, Australia (Engineers Australia) accredited degree programs and accredited graduate programs are eligible for membership of the Institute. Graduates of Bachelor of Engineering may start work as graduates of professional engineers upon graduation, although some may choose to undertake further studies such as a Master's degree or Doctorate. Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or various State registration requirements are usually obtained in later years. Graduates with formal engineering qualifications in Australia are often referred to as Professional Engineers to distinguish them from other professions where the term "Engineer" is used loosely.
Bangladesh
In Bangladesh, Bachelor of Science in Engineering B.Sc. (Engineering) is a four-year university degree under graduate. Eligibility for admission is 12 years of schooling under a science background. Generally the first year (the first two semesters) is common to all branches and has the same subjects. The program is transferred after the first year. Media instructions and checks are English. Generally, universities in Bangladesh offer engineering degrees in the following branches: Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Information and Communication Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering , Textile Engineering, Aviation Engineering, Electronic Engineering and Communications, Biomedical Engineering, Food Engineering and Agricultural Engineering. The Ministry of Education (Bangladesh), UGC and the Government of Bangladesh are responsible for approving universities and branches/technical courses. Only universities that have been approved by these bodies can provide lawful titles and are accepted as qualifications for employment in government and the private sector.
Canada
In Canada, degrees awarded for undergraduate engineering studies include: Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng or B.E., depending on institution); Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.); and Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.Sc.Eng.).
The Canadian Engineering Accreditation Council (CEAB), a division of Canadian Engineers, establishes and maintains accreditation standards among Canadian undergraduate engineering programs. Graduates of these programs are considered by the profession to have the academic qualifications required to be licensed as professional engineers in Canada. This practice is intended to maintain the standard of education and enable the mobility of engineers in different provinces in Canada.
The CEAB-accredited degree is the minimum academic requirement for enrollment as a professional engineer anywhere in the country, and a standard used to measure all academic engineering qualifications. Graduation from an accredited program, which usually involves four years of study, is the first step necessary to become a Professional Engineer. Rules and accreditation are made through self-governing bodies (names varying from province to province), which are authorized by law to register and discipline engineers, as well as organize technical fields in each province.
Graduates of non-CEAB-accredited programs must demonstrate that their education is at least equivalent to the graduates of the CEAB accreditation program.
German
In Germany, Bachelor of Engineering was introduced as part of the implementation of the Bologna process. However, this degree is in fact mostly offered by the German Fachhochschule-institute of the University of Applied Sciences. The German engineering university grants a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering rather than a Beng degree.
Finnish
The situation is similar in Finland as in Germany. University of applied sciences (ammattikorkeakoulu) provides a professional bachelor degree ( insinÃÆ'¶ÃÆ'¶ri (amk) ). Levels do not traditionally prepare for further study, but due to the Bologna process, an entirely new level of insanÃÆ'¶ÃÆ'¶ri (yamk) has been introduced to engineers who wish to continue studying after some work experience. Prior to 2005, the academic university (see Education in Finland) made no administrative difference between undergraduate and graduate studies, and the Master's degree of diploma-insinÃÆ'¶ÃÆ'¶ri was the first degree accepted. Since the Bologna process, the medium "Bachelor of Science in Engineering" ( tekidikan kandidaatti ) has been introduced.
Pakistan
In Pakistan, the Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BS/BSc Engineering) is a four-year bachelor's degree in a professional degree that includes the study of program and engineering research. Prerequisites for this program are two years of pre-engineering FSc or a three-year Diploma in Associate Engineer (DAE) in a particular field eg. Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering, etc. The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) accredits the bachelor degree of engineering and regulates the profession of engineers in Pakistan. PEC is a complete signing of the Washington Accord.
Nepal
In Nepal, Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) is a four-year undergraduate program. The prerequisites for this course are Higher Secondary Level (10 2 Science) with Major Physics or Certificate Proficiency Level (PCL) in Engineering or Science. The Institute of Engineering under the umbrella Tribhuvan University offers B.E. degree in several disciplines such as Electronics and Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Likewise, other universities in Nepal such as Kathmandu University, Pokhara University, and Purbanchal University, Mid Western University offer BE degree in most of the engineering disciplines. The normal duration for course completion is 4 years. However, the maximum time to complete the course is 8 years from the time of enrollment or 4 years after the normal duration. B.E. graduates degree may apply to an Engineer (Er.) degree or certification as a registered engineer for a regulatory body called Nepal Engineering Council (NEC). After a careful examination of applications/applicants, the Nepali Engineering Council provides the Certificate of Registration as a General Engineer which is a must to practice the engineering profession in Nepal. For example: If a student is called a graduate of XYZ with B.E. degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from one of the accredited universities, he is listed as General Electronics and Communication Engineer with Er. the title is written in front of the name as Er. XYZ
Dutch
In Holland, Bachelor of Engineering is also introduced as part of the implementation of the Bologna Process, just like in Germany. This degree is only offered by the Dutch Hogeschool institution and is equivalent to a Dutch engineer's degree "ingenieur" (ing.). A BEING Netherlands involves a rigorous study for four years and is only awarded in aviation engineering, mechanical engineering, software engineering, industrial engineering, or electrical engineering. Completion of studies of Dutch engineers in the fields of biochemical engineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, material engineering but awarded with a Bachelor of Applied Science. The Dutch technical university grants a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (BSc) instead of a BEng degree.
India
In India, a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) is a professional engineering degree awarded after completing four years of engineering studies and research. National interest institutions, such as the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) offer a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) instead of BE in engineering. Some universities in India offer engineering degrees under the name Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and some universities offer a bachelor degree in engineering under the name B.Tech but whichever name is used, the degree program follows the standard curriculum set by the All India Council for Technical Education ( AICTE) and the University Grants Commission of India (UGC). There is no difference in program objectives and learning outcomes from BE and B.Tech. Eligibility for admission is 12 years of school education. Generally the first year (the first two semesters) is common to all branches and has the same subjects. The program is transferred after the first year. Media instructions and checks are English. Generally, Indian universities offer engineer degrees in the following branches: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electronic Engineering and Communications, Instrumentation and Control Techniques, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Metallurgical Engineering , Aerospace Engineering, Production Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Agricultural Engineering. The AICTE, UGC and Government of India are responsible for approving technical colleges and branches/courses. Only universities that have been approved by these bodies can provide lawful titles and are accepted as qualifications for employment in the central/state government and private sector.
