General Applications (informally known as General Applications ) is a college admission application that applicants can apply to enroll in one of over 700 colleges and universities in 49 states and the District of Columbia, as well as in Canada, China, and many European countries. Colleges and university members who receive a General Application consist of more than 100 state universities, 10 Colleges and Black History Universities, and more than 250 institutions that do not require a registration fee. It is managed by staff of the non-profit membership association (The Common Application, Inc.) and is governed by a 13-member Volunteer Board of Directors drawn from the ranks of university entrance deans and secondary school counselors. Its mission is to promote access, equality, and integrity in the admissions process of universities, which includes subjective factors derived from essays and shared recommendations of more objective criteria such as class ratings.

There are different General Applications for first year acceptance and transfer receipts. Both versions allow the applie dashboard from year to year, using the same username and password.

Although the General App allows you to self-report a standardized test score, most colleges require you to send them an official score report from a test agent.

Of the General Applications of over 700 members, about one-third are "exclusive users" who use the Public App as their only online or printed registration application (listed here). If members have separate ownership applications, they are required to give equal consideration to applicants using one form as a membership requirement.

In protest about the lack of General Application Identification for undocumented immigrants, the Student Immigrant rights group for undated Dreams and Equity Decisions Now launched the "General Applied Fair", which will refine what they believe to be "a separate and unequal reception process". No colleges accept alternative applications, and representatives of the Common Application threaten legal action, alleging copyright infringement, causing protest sites to be removed.

Technical Difficulties

From August to October 2013, General Applications drew criticism for various issues with their website. On August 1, 2013, the General App launches a new CA4 system. Counselors and students report deleted essay sections, formatting problems, instructor recommendations, payments sent multiple times, and more. In December 2013, the manager claimed "annoyance" with the Public App appears to have been completed, with a director of acceptance describing the situation as "essentially 'business as usual.'" At the end of October 2017, the General App was temporarily taken offline due to the spike unusual in system activity. Despite the brief interruption, over 1 million students are sent through the General App until November 1, 2017.

Competition

The Universal College application began in 2007 and in March 2015 had 46 participating institutions.

The Coalition Application is created by a selective consortium of colleges and universities known as the Coalition for Access, Affordability and Success in September 2015. Coalition Applications are made as more "holistic" apps, and include "lockers" where students can create portfolios in the classroom 9.

The Common Black College (CBCA) application began in 1998. The company began to step up its marketing and recruitment efforts from the Historical University and Black University (HBCU) while increasing the choice of education for students interested in attending HBCU.

Students can complete CBCA and register to any number from 53 Member Institutions currently participating at the same time for $ 35. Students do not pay other application fees.
