Europe

Belgium

Pharmacist education in Belgium requires a minimum of five years of university study. Harmonization of the EU has led to the division into three scholars and two master years. Undergraduate degrees, however, are not used at all professionally. Belgium considers their current degree of degree education (M.Sc.) in pharmacy proportional to Pharm.D. titles used in the United States. To become a hospital pharmacist, a three-year residency program must be completed after obtaining a M.Sc. in pharmaceutical science.

Czech and Slovakian Republic

In both countries, PharmDr. (Pharmaciae doctor) diploma can be obtained by pharmacist who has previously graduated in pharmacy (Magister, Mgr.) (Pharmacy graduate study takes five years). Applicants must maintain experimental research or thesis, and pass a rigorous exam. The PharmDr. very prestigious title and written in front of the name. This is different from a Ph.D. degree.

French

In France, the Pharm.D study can only be accessed through a competitive examination ("concours", with numerical clauses) occurring at the end of the first year of health studies. Most candidates hold the Scientific Baccalaeureate of the equivalent of high school (lycÃÆ' Â © e). If a failure occurs, you can try again. The annual success rate depends on the current university and the number or students enrolled, ranging from 10 to 30% considering that participants who are both three to four times more likely to succeed than students who try for the first time.

To obtain a "Pharmacy Doctor" state diploma, the study lasts at least six years, or nine years for students choosing a residence (hospital pharmacy or medical biology). This can be accessed through other competitive exams, even more selectively. It lasts for four years and provides other specialist diplomas such as in medicine (DES for "diplÃÆ'Â'me d'ÃÆ' Â © tudes spÃÆ'Â © cialisÃÆ' Â © es"). Students should specialize when entering the 5th year, and choose between granting pharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical industries or hospital residencies. In any case, a 12 month part-time hospital extension is mandatory during the fifth year, although some flexibility is possible for students who choose industry.

The sixth year for industry is generally dedicated to further specialization with a former Master of Professional degree or a former Research Master's degree including an internship.

In France, since the EU harmonization in September 2005, students who choose industry/research orientation have a six-month period of extension of part-time hospitals, and 3 to 6 months of full-time training in pharmaceutical industry or research laboratories.

Hungarian

In Hungary, pharmacists get their master's degree, after five years of study. In the fifth year, students must undergo professional training, which lasts for two two months (autumn and spring) in public pharmacies and one month in the hospital. Dutch

Pharmacist education in the Netherlands requires at least six years of university studies. Harmonization of the EU has led to the division into three scholars and three master years. Undergraduate degrees, however, are not used at all professionally. The Netherlands considers the educational level of their current degree (M.Sc.) in pharmacy to be comparable to Pharm.D. titles used in the United States. To become a hospital pharmacist, a four-year residency program should be completed afterwards.

Finished the title, Pharmacy Physician academic degree issued. Graduates can then enroll in a regulatory body for the Pharmacist profession in Portugal called, "Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society" or, in Portuguese, "Ordem dos FarmacÃÆ'ªuticos".
