Controversy

The Palm Beach Post has documented a controversy involving Food For The Poor. In 2000, Ferdinand Mahfood resigned as CEO amid allegations he transferred money to two female employees who were sleeping with him. Ferdinand Mahfood finally admitted abusing $ 275,000 from the FFP and took steps to return the money.

Ferdinand's brother, Robin Mahfood took over the position of CEO in the midst of crisis. Between 2003 and 2007, FFP paid $ 1.9 million in salary and benefits to five of his relatives. Until 2008, FFP also did business with two non-profit corporations run by the Mahfood family, buying in four years over $ 200,000 of soda and knee-high boots in transactions that Mahfood had approval. CEO Robin Mahfood received a salary of $ 364,874 in 2008

On April 11, 2018, California attorney for the state of California, Xavier Becerra, filed CEASE AND DESIST orders to Food For The Poor, accusing them of claiming that 9% 5.6% of all donations, including donated goods, for Food For The Poor goes directly to programs that help the poor is wrong and misleading and that the actual amount (for 2013) is 66.2% cash donation. The state also claims that charities use improper accounting techniques in which they will take the expired US retail value of pharmaceuticals that have expired donated or provided by pharmaceutical companies to be shipped to third world countries and calculate the same value with cash donations. The state ordered the organization to pay a $ 1,088 million fine, stop using a 95% statement and revoke permission to raise a charitable fund in the state of California.

Food for the Poor responds that they uphold high standards of integrity and honesty, and they are confident that they will demonstrate that their accounting and assessment practices and assessments meet and often exceed legal requirements, as well as industry best practice. They issued a public statement.
