The driver permission, student license , learners license or temporary license , is a limited license granted to a studying person driving, but not yet eligible for a driving license. Having a driver's license for a specified period of time is usually one of the requirements (along with driver's education and road tests) to apply for a complete driver's license. To obtain a student's permission, a person must pass a written permission test, traffic, and road rules.

Australia
The law on student consent in Australia differs across states. However, all states require a number of supervised driving hours to do and for permits to be held for a certain period of time. The age to obtain a Learning License is 16 in all states and territories except ACT where it is 15 and 9 months. When someone is in their student's license, they must login 50-120 hours depending on their circumstances, and should get at least 5 hours of night. They can be watched or taught in their logbook hours by anyone/person who holds the full license. They had to sign a notebook for the hours allocated.

Belgium
A temporary learner's license may be obtained after passing a theoretical exam less than three years prior. The minimum age for a student's permit is 17 years. The student must be accompanied by a designated person with a valid driver's license. Vehicles must have a clearly visible "learners" sign, designed for "L".
Canada
In Canada, the minimum age varies from one province to another and maybe 14 or 16. In Ontario, the G1 License is assigned to new drivers at the age of 16 after completing a written test. G1 license restrictions include:
- Have time and/or road restrictions, and students must drive with fully licensed drivers for at least 4 years. After a year with G2, learners can upgrade to their full G class license by taking another road test, which has a major road component. A similar program applies to motorcycles, class licenses M.
In Nova Scotia, a beginner's permit (L) is issued to a new driver after the age of 16 after a written test. L license constraints include:
- A fully licensed driver must sit in a chair adjacent to the new driver
- There can be no additional passengers
- The learner must have an amount of alcohol in the blood 0
- No time or path restrictions
In Alberta, a student's permission is granted to those who complete a test of knowledge, eye examinations and those aged 14 and over. They are then incorporated into GDL programs with restrictions. Some include: have blood alcohol level 0, fully licensed driver in the passenger seat, no one is more than a chair, and must hold the license for a minimum of one year before upgrading.
In Alberta, a person must pass a basic road test after having a student license for at least one year and at or above the age of 16, then be able to apply for a Class 5 GDL license, which carries some of the same restrictions, but no longer requires a Class 5 driver non-GDL is fully licensed in the passenger seat. Once the person becomes 18 and holds a Class 5 GDL license for at least 2 years, they can perform an advanced road test that if they pass, they will become fully licensed Class 5 drivers.
French
In France, there are Graduate driver licenses for people between the ages of 15 and 17 and half, for B Driving licenses.
Some limitations exist; one of the main conditions is that fully licensed licensed drivers must accompany the learner.
By 18, the student's permit may apply to a normal driving license, which may pass more easily due to previous experience; In addition, its trial license is reduced from three to two years.
This graduate driver's license is valid only in France, so it is not possible to cross their border with the Graduated driver license.
For those over the age of 18, systems are similar to existing driver licenses, but the rules are slightly different, eg not giving a three to two year reduction for a probation license.
Furthermore, anyone who initially gets a driver's license, for the first, must object to following a two- or three-year restriction known as permis probatoire . The permis probatoire starts with a specific problem:
- Reduced speed for new drivers: 110 km/h instead of 130 on the highway, 100 km/h instead of 110, and 80 instead of 90 on rural roads.
- The permis probatoire has only six points, and the driver's access to 12 points when the driver passes three years
Some training for road traffic safety can help restore points.
German
Since 2010, it is possible to get a student permit at 17 in Germany. The only limitation is that a fully licensed and previously licensed driver who is at least 30 years old must accompany the learner (but not be allowed to intervene in the drive). That does not apply to light motorcycles, which can be driven freely with this license.
In addition, everyone who initially gets a driver's license must object to following a 2-year restriction that starts with the problem:
- The driver must have an amount of alcohol in blood 0 (this applies at least until the age of 21)
- Any penalty is more stringent than for advanced drivers
By 18, the student's permission will be automatically replaced by a normal driving license - no further tests are required. The legal situation in Germany is comparable to that of Austria in this case - making it possible to cross their borders with student permission.
Hong Kong
In Hong Kong, anyone over the age of 18 may apply for a Student Driving License for private cars, light vehicles and motorbikes. For other types of vehicles, the required age is 21 years and applicants must have a valid driver's license for private vehicles or lighter vehicles valid for 3 years. Unlike other jurisdictions, a learner should be supervised by an approved driving instructor instead of a licensed full-service driver, or attend an approved driving school for driving lessons (excepting motorcycles, which the learner can seat himself, but a motorcycle learner must pass the course motorcycles from approved driving schools before they can learn to drive on the road). L-plate is also required when students are practicing.
India
In India, the minimum age at which a temporary license is valid is 18 (and 16 for riding on a scooter without gears). When driving under a temporary license, the student must be accompanied by a driver who holds a full driving license. The supervisor should pay attention to the road and be in a position to control the vehicle. Temporary licenses are only available after passing the theoretical exams. Full license can only be obtained after passing the driving test. Once students pass the test theory, they can take a practical driving test. After a practical driving test has been taken and skipped, a full driving license will be issued automatically. While it is possible to take both tests immediately after each other, most drivers learn to take time between taking the theory and applying practical tests to carry on driving lessons, either with their supervisors or professional driving schools.
Student-driven vehicles should also be equipped with L-plate at the rear and front of the vehicle. It tells other road users that the vehicle is being operated by the driver without their full license and that they can make mistakes easily and that the driver may not have been fully competent yet. The L-plate consists of a white square plate with a large red L in the middle.
ireland
In Ireland, students can perform theoretical tests at the age of 16 who test their knowledge of traffic situations and road signs. Upon passing this test, students will receive a student pass that allows them to drive on the street accompanied by fully licensed drivers who have had their licenses for more than two years. The only limitation is that the learning driver can not drive on the highway and should show up displaying the 'L' plate at all times. They must hold their student's permission for 6 months before they can apply for a road test to obtain their full license. This is known as the 'six month rule'.
New Zealand
Student license
In New Zealand any person eligible for 16 years or more may take a student license test, which is a multiple choice test of theories about road regulations. After they graduate, they can drive with a fully licensed adult from the same license class for at least two years ('supervisor'). They should display L plates any time while driving. Student drivers can observe the posted speed limit. They can carry passengers with adults in cars that have had their full license for more than two years.
Restricted license
After at least 6 months have passed, they must pass a practical test to receive their limited licenses. On restricted licenses, students may only drive between 5 am and 10 pm, without passengers other than their dependent children, spouses or someone who becomes their primary caregiver; they can drive anytime when accompanied by the supervisor. Learners who take the practice test in automated cars are only legally allowed to drive automatically when using a restricted license. If a driver has successfully completed an approved defensive driving course, the waiting time between passes a limited license practice test and takes full licensing practice test is reduced from 18 months to 12 months.
Norway
In Norway, students can drive during learners over the age of 16, have graduated basic courses in road rules and first aid, and a 25 or more person who has had a driver's license for more than 5 years is present.
Singapore
In Singapore, any person over the age of 18 may obtain a temporary driver's license at a cost of S $ 25.00 upon graduation of the Basic Theory Test. Temporary driving license is valid for 6 months if the PDL license is obtained before December 1, 2017. Starting December 1, 2017, the validity of the PDL license is 2 years from the date of payment, without any change of cost. This allows the holder to drive on public roads (with some exceptions) in the presence of a Certified Driving Instructor. A car driven by a learner should display an L-plate on the front and rear of the car. Passing the Final Theory Test allows students to apply for a Practical Tightening Test and is valid for 2 years. The applicable temporary driving licenses, bypassing FTT and photo ID must be indicated to be allowed to take a practical test. If the driver's license while the student ends before their practice exam date, he/she must update it for the same fee. Expired PDLs are not accepted and take a practical test will be rejected.
Quality Driving License (QDL) is awarded to people who have passed the practice test and made a one-time payment of S $ 50.00. Anyone who has had QDL for a period of less than a year is required to display the experimental plate on the top right of their windshield and back. The experimental plate is made of reflective material and consists of an orange triangle on a yellow background. Failure to do so may result in an offending driver receiving a fine for the first time and then revoked from driving. View the driver's license in Singapore for the detailed requirements of each licensing class.
South Africa
The South African learner's license consists of three parts with the following criteria required:
- Road rules - There are 30 questions in this category with 22 being a pass mark
- Vehicle control - There are 8 questions in this section, the required pass mark is 6
- Street signs, road markings, and traffic signals - There are 30 questions in this category with a pass mark 23
There are three main codes to choose from:
- Code 1 - This is for motorcycles, tricycles or quadricycle no more than 125cc and drivers must be 16 years of age up on test date. If the motorcycle engine is above 125cc, the driver must be 17 years old or older.
- Code 2 - This is for motor vehicles, buses and minibuses or freight vehicles up to a maximum mass of 3500 kg vehicles. The driver must be 17 years or older on the test date.
- Listing 3 - This is for motor vehicles that exceed 3500 kg gross vehicle mass. The driver must be 18 years of age or older to apply for a student license in this category.
The following documents need to be presented when applying for a learner's license:
- Identity card or passport
- 2 Pass recent passport size (color or black and white) photos
In South Africa, anyone who has a minimum age and has a valid ID document can take a learner license exam. Minimum age required by vehicle class and has the following minimum age limits:
- for motorcycles (without sidecar) with engines not exceeding 125 cc - 16 years
- for light motor vehicles with mass not exceeding 3 500 kilograms - 17 years
- for all other vehicles (also motorcycles with engines exceeding 125 cc) - 18 years
The Licensing Student Exam is 68 multiple-choice questions with questions spreading in three sections: Road rules (30 questions); Signs, signals and road markings (30 questions), and vehicle control (8 questions). Licensee of the learner is allowed to drive only when supervised by a licensed driver. If a vehicle category is driven requires a professional driver's license, the licensed driver must also have a professional driver's license. South African students must bring their Student Licenses with them whenever they drive and have L plates in the rear window. The Student License is valid for 24 months.
Swedish
In Sweden, the minimum age is 16 years to obtain a car student's license; 17 years and six months are required for a combination of more advanced light vehicles and up to 23 years for heavy vehicle combinations. KÃÆ'örkortslag 4kap 2Ã,ç
United Kingdom
In the United Kingdom, the minimum age at which a temporary license is valid is 17 (16 for riding a tractor, riding a moped or those receiving a Disability Mobility Allowance). When driving under a temporary license, the student must be accompanied by a driver who has had a full SIM for three years, and who is 21 years of age or older. The superintendent had to look at the road, but the road safety act of 1988 stated that the superintendent should not be in the passenger seat, even though the passenger in the front seat must be over 15. Full licenses may be obtained as soon as a temporary license is received, unlike many other countries where applicants must wait at least 6-12 months with this said, before getting full license. Temporary licenses are available without tests, although to obtain full licenses, unrestricted - applicants must take a 'Theory' written test containing fifty multiple choice questions and a fourteen clip perception danger test, both of which are performed on the computer. at one of DSA's many Driving Standards Agency centers. Once students pass the test of theory, they can take a practical driving test, but a practical driving test should be made within 2 years after completing the theory exam, since the test certificate of theory expires 2 years after receiving it. After a practical driving test has been taken and pass the full driving license will be issued automatically.
The L-plate consists of a white square plate (often tied to a vehicle or mounted by a magnet) with a large red L in the middle. In Wales, the L-plate or D-plate can be used because of the prevailing bilingual laws in Wales. If the vehicle is operated by some named driver (As determined by the car insurance policy), then L-Plate must be removed and saved if the driver currently holds the full license. When the learner has graduated, they can get the 'P' plate that is not mandatory, indicating that they have just passed the exam, so may not have much experience on the road. P plate has a white background, with 'P' green.
In the UK, temporary licensees are not allowed to drive on the highway until they pass the practice exam.
After obtaining a full license, the driver must undergo a trial period; 6 or more accumulated penalty points within 2 years after passing the test, will lead to the revocation of the license and both tests need to be retaken.
In Northern Ireland for one year after passing the driving test, the driver is defined as a "limited driver" which should not exceed 45 mph (72 km/h) and should display "R-plate" consisting of amber sans -serif R on a white background.
United States
In the United States, it is usually for states to have a driver license program through which the first driver gets a student license, qualifies for an intermediary driver's license, and ultimately qualifies for a full driver's license. The rules governing student permission can vary significantly by country.
Learning License
In order for a minor to accept a student's permission, sometimes called a learning permit , the state usually requires a minor to sign permission from a parent or guardian. In the state of New Hampshire, a permit is not granted but a young driver may start driving with a parent or guardian, or a 25-year-old, at the age of 15 and a half.
Typically, drivers operating with a student license must be accompanied by an adult licensed driver of at least 21 years of age or older and in the passenger seat of the vehicle at all times.
In some states, permit holders are permitted to go to and from school or work with permits, without supervisory supervisors. In Indiana, Iowa, Texas, Rhode Island, Maryland and Kentucky, permission holders between 17 and 18 may legally drive unaccompanied only if going to work or to school.
After a legally designated driving period is supervised by permission, usually between six and twelve months, and after reaching the required age, the student license holder may apply for a temporary license. Obtaining a temporary license allows certain restrictions to be removed from drivers, such as the time allowed to drive, and the number of people allowed in the car.
License holders are required to document certain hours of driving under permission before qualifying for intermediate licenses, such as fifty hours of practice.
Intermediate license
Medium or temporary licenses allow drivers to drive unattended vehicles by licensed drivers. Driving is usually permitted during the limited range of most daylight hours, as well as to and from school, work and religious activities. Some states may require a road test before allowing a student license holder to obtain a medium license.
In order to qualify for a temporary license, the applicant must be at least 16 years of age and must have a student license for at least six months. These requirements vary by country. For example, in Florida the previous period for holding a student license is twelve months.
In many countries the driving period on a student's permit is shortened if the applicant is over the age of eighteen. For example, in Oklahoma if the driver is 18 years of age or older, the student's permit should only be held for one month before the driver is eligible for a medium license. Some countries allow drivers older than twenty-one to pass through the entire licensing process. For example, in Colorado, drivers over the age of twenty-one may file and pass tests for full driver licenses and licenses on the same day and, if successful pass the test, may obtain full driver licenses as soon as the driver passes a scheduled driving test.
Medium drivers are usually restricted in passenger transportation, especially small passengers, unattended. In some states, such as California, Nebraska, Oregon, Maine, New York, Florida, Kansas, Illinois, Oklahoma and Arizona, drivers are legally permitted to drive family members under the age of 21 without adult supervision if they have unmarked records hands of legal guardians.
