a drunk friend , drunk coach , or recovery coach is a title that all represents the same job in the addiction field, providing one-on-one assistance to individuals who just recovered. The goal is to help the client maintain total abstinence or harm reduction from any addiction, and to establish a healthy routine at home or after examining a residential care facility. Rules do not apply to drunk friends. A quiet friend can be part of a whole team of medical and/or professional clinical teams, can be officially licensed as a mental health professional, or have experience of respected experience in the field and can work independently on their own.

Services

Protocols for simple companions when working with their clients, family, and/or friends are set immediately. This may include a psychotherapy approach, a 12-step or non-12 step plan, other outside support groups, helping build daily nutrition and fitness, drug therapy, or holistic practice. The main task of a conscious coach is to make sure the recovered individual does not recur. They can be hired to provide care at all times, ready to call, or to accompany recovering addicts during certain activities.

The companion acts as an advocate for the newly recovered and provides new ways for clients to act in their own environment. A good calm friend completely removes the addict from her own surroundings from hidden deposits, or maybe seeks a hidden drug in the neighborhood, in an attempt to prevent a relapse.

Engagement with a quiet friend usually lasts 30 days or longer. The time it takes to make a meaningful change varies depending on the client, the interruption, and the life at home. Ethically, the presence of a companion in the life of the client will go down because of the client's ability to connect to newly defined healthy behaviors with family, occupation, and legal issues without a proven relapse. Some recovery coaches stay with their clients for months, and some only offer transportation services (for example, to and from a simple home or care facility). Simple companion duties vary from case to case, from simply ensuring the client remains abstinent, to building and delivering specific plans from recovered resources and relationships into their homes and communities.

A conscious friend is sometimes employed in cases where an actor or a musician will not attend treatment, but must remain fast to complete a film or recording project. They are also described by some media as "adult babysitters". Doctors can also refer to drunk friends as "supporters" to actors, musicians, and other celebrities.

Controversy

There is controversy among friends who are quiet about the use of drug replacement therapy and prescription drugs to facilitate withdrawal, cravings or other side effects from long-term use of narcotics and alcohol. A conscious friend is sometimes used as a substitute for home addiction treatment or other forms of drug rehabilitation. Doug Caine, founder of Sober Champion, and Dr. Ronald J. Hunsicker, FACATA, National Association of Addiction Treatments Providers' presidents and chief executive officers, introduce alternative perspectives in mental health and addiction care programs. It is recommended that a combined approach be taken, especially for people at high risk of relapse. Hunsicker's Speech on "The Challenge to Implement Evidence-based Practices in Addiction Treatment" suggests that friends can help patients by successfully switching from a highly structured and secure environment to a world where he previously failed to remain conscious. Other experts are skeptical of the companion approach and its dependence on one individual.
