How To Bleed A Brake Line - Data SET •
src: www.dummies.com

Bringing ble is a procedure performed on the hydraulic brake system where the brake line (pipe and hose with brake fluid) is cleared of all air bubbles. This is necessary because, while brake fluid is a compressible liquid, air bubbles are compressible gases and their presence in the brake system greatly reduces hydraulic pressure that can be developed within the system. The same method used for bleeding is also used for rem flushing or cleaning, where the old liquid is replaced with a new liquid, which is the necessary treatment.

This process is done by forcing the bubble-free brake fluid through the entire system, usually from the master cylinder (s) to the disc brake calipers (or drum brake wheel cylinders), but in certain cases in the opposite direction. Bloody brake screws are usually installed at the highest point on each cylinder or caliper.

There are five main methods of bleeding:

  • The pump and hold method , the brake pedal is pressed while one screw is bleed at one time opened, allowing air to escape. The bleed screw should be closed before removing the pedal, or one-way valve should be installed.
  • In the vacuum method , the vacuum pump is installed on the exploit valve, which is opened and the liquid extracted with the pump until it flows from the bubbles.
  • In the pressure method , the pressure pump is attached to the master cylinder, depressing the system, and the blackmailer valve is opened one by one until the liquid is clean from the air. Special pumps can incorporate methods to automatically maintain a full brake fluid reservoir during bleeding.
  • In the reversed method, the pump is used to force the fluid through the blackmail valve into the master cylinder. This method uses the concept that the air rises in liquid form and naturally wants to get out and out of the brake system.
  • Gravitational bleeding is a simple and easy method to replace automotive brake fluid. It can also be used for bleeding systems that contain air bubbles but may not be as effective as other methods.

Pros and cons of various methods

Pump and retaining methods typically require two people, although one person can do so if one-way nipples or valves are installed. During this method, the brake pedal and master cylinder piston will run beyond their normal range which can cause damage to the seal or incorporate the corroded metal into the brake fluid.

Cylinders or double-wheel calipers can be released simultaneously, although this is usually done only by gravity methods that do not require pumps. The gravity method takes a long time, usually a few hours to replace all the fluids. The bubbles in the system can rise faster than the fluid channels, so they may not be effective at bleeding, but are generally sufficient to replace old fluids with new ones. Gravitational haemorrhage is a very simple method that requires only one person. When the lid of the reservoir is removed and the bleeding nipple is opened, the liquid drips slowly from the nipple as it is lower than the reservoir. Hoses are usually used to collect fluids in containers for safe disposal. Reservoir should be stored above the min mark at any time to avoid more air being drawn into the system.

Applying pressure to the nipple or nipple is bleeding, or applying the vacuum to the bleeding nipple, making the flow of the liquid through much faster than gravity alone. Replacing all fluids takes only a few minutes.

Different vehicles have different suggested bleeding patterns. The bled brakes usually start with the wheel furthest from the master cylinder and work toward the wheel closest to the master cylinder. This prevents the bubbles in the system being forced into pipes to the already bleeding wheel.

Bleeding Bench

After replacement of the master cylinder, the master cylinder is usually "bench bled" before installation. Usually by securing it on the bench, fill it with liquid, connect the fittings and hose to drain the liquid from the outlet port on the master cylinder back to its reservoir, and repeatedly pressing the master cylinder plunger until the bubbles no longer appear to come from the hose.

Coupling bleeding

The same technique is used for hydraulic coupling system bleeding. A bleeding nipple on a clutch slave cylinder is used. Gravitational bleeding is often ineffective because of the layout of the clutch pipe.
