The registration of antique vehicles is a special form of motor vehicle registration for vehicles considered antique, classical, vintage, or historical. Both the specific terms used and the definition of eligible vehicles vary from country to country, as well as within countries if it is a federation.

Usually, antique vehicles are determined by age at the time of registration of antique vehicles sought. For example, this age is 20 years in the US state of Connecticut, 25 years in the US state of Virginia, 30 years in the state of Queensland, Australia, 30 years in Sweden and Brazil, and 35 years in Singapore. Great Britain requires that the vehicle be built before January 1, 1973 although the assumption was made that the vehicle which was first registered before 7 January 1973 was actually produced in 1972 and therefore was exempt from tax.

Registration of antique vehicles may provide certain benefits, such as reduced or canceled registration fees, exemption from vehicle inspections, and/or license plates of special vehicles. However, the owner's privileges for driving a vehicle can be significantly restricted. For example, in Virginia, the use of registered cars as antiques is limited to participation in car club activities, parades, and such, driving to and from such events, testing, getting maintenance and repair, and occasional pleasure driving within 250 miles (400 km ) of a person's residence. Traveling to and from work is specifically prohibited in Virginia. Despite having rules similar to the Virginia example above, Tennessee does not allow the transfer of an antique number plate between owners when the vehicle is sold so the original owner must submit an antique dish and the new owner must apply for a new one. In 2009, Tennessee allowed the transfer of an existing antique signature from a vehicle sold by the sales owner to another antique vehicle owned by the same owner. Connecticut has no restrictions on driving or registration on autos so it is listed. Also in 2009 Tennessee now requires special verification by law enforcement agencies (state police or police) for the fact that the vehicle is antique and unmodified but does require the same affidafit owner and continued previous restrictions on vehicle use by the owners. In Sweden there are no specific limitations and the requirements for annual vehicle inspections are reduced to biennial.

Special number plates can take the form of newly produced plates with legends such as "Antik", "Historical", "Early America", or "Train Without Rides". The number plates have a separate sequence number from the regular number plate and may have a distinctive color scheme (for example, in Brazil, the plate has an inverted color scheme: the normal plate is black on top of gray and the antique plate is gray on black). Virginia has two rows of such dishes, one of which is designed to look old. Or, under certain circumstances, a special number plate can be an authentic number plate from the same year as the model car year (called terms like "Year of Manufacture" or "Vintage," depending on the jurisdiction). Virginia allows the use of such plates if they arise (not stuck) with the appropriate year. Tennessee allows the use of antique model number plates for antique cars as long as the car is specifically listed as an antique vehicle and the country issued a mark and the antique registration is stored in the vehicle for inspection upon request by law enforcement personnel. In 2009 Tennessee enables the registration of antique vehicles with appropriate antique age signs (either one or two plates depending on the year of vehicle production) in certain guidelines and with restrictions on use as above. While the YOM law allows vehicle owners to display vehicles as they were when it was first produced, it may not be legitimate for road use in other countries.
